In honor of Women’s History Month, American Corner (AC) Lamu organized a “Women Empowerment Roundtable” for 420 girls from Lamu Girls Primary School (LGPS) on March 15. The program stressed the importance of education and highlighted the roles of successful women in Kenya and the United States. AC Lamu coordinator Fatma Busaidy led a guest panel consisting of four women community representatives, 2 of whom were LGPS alumni. The panelists discussed education excellence and career development and encouraged leadership through dedication, pillars of success and competitiveness.
The students engaged in an open dialogue for more information on further studies and future careers. The roundtable was well received by the students and teachers.
