Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Kenya welcomed CDC Director Dr. Tom Frieden as he traveled through Nairobi on August 6, as part of his African tour. Dr. Frieden met with CDC Kenya Country Director Dr. Kevin DeCock and other senior staff members to discuss the planned establishment of a National Public Health Institute, the increased collaboration in the area of health security, and the progress Kenya is making in the areas of tuberculosis, malaria and HIV.

Dr. Frieden’s trip has included stops in Nigeria, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ghana and Kenya; and he is continuing on to the Democratic Republic of Congo before heading to India.
