Message for U.S. Citizens: Routine Consular Services

April 15, 2021

Due to COVID-19, the U.S. Embassy Nairobi Consular Section has temporarily restricted some routine consular processing in accordance with Department of State worldwide regulations and Government of Kenya guidelines.

We advise all U.S. citizens in Kenya to check the expiration date of their passport and, if necessary, to click here to make an appointment for routine passport renewal services.  We are experiencing up to two months’ wait time for passport services, and the wait time continues to grow.  Please plan accordingly.

We are also experiencing long wait times for routine Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) appointments and are scheduling past the summer of 2021.

For notary services, please click here to schedule an appointment.  We are currently experiencing a wait time of one month, so please plan accordingly.

If you have submitted documents in support of a previous application, you may experience long waits for review.

To submit a request for an emergency service, please email Kenya_acs@state.gov with your travel itinerary if necessary.  Emergency services include a need for urgent travel to the United States for the passport holder (for passport renewals) or child (for CRBA services) or life-or-death situations.  A travel itinerary will be required.

The last year has seen an unprecedented worldwide crisis.  We look forward to returning to normal.  However, for now, we will continue to provide limited services in line with our COVID-19 mitigation measures for your safety.  We appreciate your patience.
