The United States Commemorates the 20th Anniversary of the September 11 Terror Attacks
Nairobi, Kenya, September 11, 2021: Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., Eric Kneedler led the U.S. Embassy Nairobi community in a commemorative ceremony marking the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks on the United States. Observing a moment of silence to honor lives lost in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania, as well as those who perished on August 7, 1998 in Kenya and Tanzania, and the service members recently killed in Afghanistan, Chargé Kneedler said “the United States and Kenya are bound together by our shared experiences of tragedy caused by terrorism, and we will remain steadfast partners in extinguishing violent extremism wherever it is found.”
Kneedler also recognized the service of the U.S. Marines and the Kenyan Special Program for Embassy Augmentation and Response (SPEAR) team Command for their dedication to the protection of the embassy, and presented an American flag to SPEAR Command Chief Inspector Silas Songoro on behalf of the embassy community. “On the twentieth anniversary of 9/11, it is our duty to remember those who we have lost as well as those who work every day to keep us safe,” said U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., Eric Kneedler.
