U.S. Ambassador Visits School Feeding Program and Donates Footballs at Mathare Primary School

U.S. Ambassador to Kenya Robert F. Godec visited Mathare Primary School to celebrate 10 years of U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) support for school feeding and to honor the 50 years of relations between Kenya and the United States.

Since 2004, USDA has pledged approximately $100 million USD to support a school feeding program in Kenya under the McGovern-Dole Program.  USDA funds a significant amount of the World Food Program’s school feeding projects in Kenya, supporting lunch-time meals for 770,000 kids in over 2,000 schools around the country.  The U.S. government has committed to continue its support of school feeding in Kenya through 2015.

Ambassador Godec acknowledged Mathare Primary School as a brilliant example of the spirit, industriousness and heart of the Kenyan people.  He toured the school, visited classrooms, donated footballs to the children, and participated in the lunch time serving of students.
