U.S. Embassy Nairobi Political Coordinator Mathew Long joined the American Corner (AC) Lamu Coordinator Fatma Busaidy on November 29-30, for the final selections of the Youth Exchange and Study (YES) program. YES, a program funded by the U.S. Department of State, selects a high school student between 14-15 years old to participate in a one year exchange program in the United States. The participant lives with an American family and attends a local school.
The final selection orientation camp took place at Savelberg Resource Center in Nairobi. Students came from all over Kenya, including Lamu which is a world heritage site. Mr. Long spoke with the high school students and answered questions on life in the United States including education, family, ethics, student and social life. AC Coordinator Busaidy also shared her experiences of her travels to the United States and shared information on essay writing and ELTIS testing.
The students enjoyed the event, learning about exchange programs and gaining knowledge about the United States.
