U.S Embassy Nairobi Launches New American Corner in Nakuru, Kenya

U.S. Embassy Nairobi Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) Isiah Parnell launched a new American Corner (AC) at the Nakuru Public Library, October 3.  Nakuru is one of Kenya’s fastest growing communities, located in central Kenya.

Over 400 people from the local community attended the event including Nakuru County officials, teachers and students of all ages from the primary to university level.  DCM Parnell spoke about the significance of books and reading, access to free internet and the importance of the 50 year partnership between the United States and Kenya.  Two university students, who are U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) scholarship beneficiaries, spoke about the importance of libraries and books to their education.  The students thanked the U.S. government for assistance in finishing their education.  This American Corner is the 4th in Kenya and is part of an ongoing partnership with the Kenya National Library Service (KNLS).
