U.S. Embassy Nairobi Reaches Out to Ph.D. Students

The U.S. Embassy Nairobi American Reference Center (ARC) hosted 12 Ph.D. researchers from University of Nairobi’s Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies for an introduction to the ARC’s services and the eLibraryUSA on January 29, 2014.

ARC Deputy Director Nashon Akello introduced researchers to the full text contents of relevant databases including the ebrary, Academic One File, Business Source Premier and GREENR to enable the researchers to do in-depth research in their respective fields of study.  Information Resource Officer Henry Mendelsohn also introduced researchers to important non-eLibraryUSA databases that deal with environmental issues such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Science.gov, UNEP and State.gov.  He also spoke about EducationUSA and encouraged the students to consider graduate study in the U.S.

Professor Peter Corcoran, a visiting Fulbright Professor at the University of Nairobi, organized the visit.  The students commented on how valuable the resources would be to their graduate research.
