The U.S. Marines Nairobi, together with U.S. Ambassador to Kenya Robert F. Godec, through the Toys for Tots Program, distributed toys at the Saru Learning Center in Gachie, Kenya, on February 3. The Saru Learning Center provides early childhood and primary education to disadvantaged girls and boys between the ages of 3 and 14 years. The Center supplies meals for the students, and as many of the youngsters are orphans or street-children, Saru offers them a safe space. By providing education, socialization skills, positive reinforcement and a safe place for several hours during the day, the boys and girls are less exposed to negative influences of being on the streets.
The U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program collects toys annually and distributes them to less fortunate children. With the primary goal of delivering a message of hope to these boys and girls, the Marines instill positive lasting memories and inspire them in becoming responsible, productive adults.
